About Us
Herein lies the story of MyComputerPaladin.com…
In the beginning, there was the computer. And the computer was built to service the needs of many engineers. And the computer was instructed by The Programmers and happily performed its job.
And all was well.
And God looked upon His creation, the Programmer, and felt that the Programmer was too powerful. So he inserted a “flaw” into this new creation (okay, so there is probably more than one flaw!)…the flaw being that the Programmer would forever make numerous mistakes. This also meant that the programs written by the Programmer would forever have mistakes in them as well.
Then from out of the darkness came the Anti-Programmers. They were not satisifed with the useful operations of the computer. Always they sought to pervert the ways of Good Programmers. The programs of the Anti-Programmers delighted in the exercising of power over the computer hardware and the user. They gained satisfaction out of baffling the user with incomprehensible screens, features that never worked correctly, and especially from programs that destroyed the work of Good Programmers.
Fortunately, these Anti-Programmers were limited in their power to the poor wretched computers that they had managed to subvert to their own purposes. Their influence could not extend beyond the very machines they had managed to pervert.
Until the Internet…
With the Internet came the interconnection of various computer systems. Vast computing services sprang into existence. Online communities thrived. Useful services worked busily, fulfilling the dreams of corporate and private users alike. Indeed, it was a propsperous time for all…
Unfortunately, this same networking technology freed the Anti-Programmers from their virtual prison…and they vowed to make themselves known thoughout the world…
Exploiting the flaw that God Himself had introduced into all Programmers, the Anti-Programmers began seeking out the code of the Good Programmers.
Now, the Good Programmers had been busy, building operating systems, utilities, and other software packages. As is their lot in life, these software systems all had flaws in them. Mistakes in the code that caused them to behave incorrectly or not work properly from time to time. Users and Good Programmers often quibbled over these issues, but for the most part there was harmony in the land. The Good Programmers continued to fix problems in old software (most of the time) and to develop new software that could surpass the expectations of the previous generation of users and Programmers alike.
But as the Anti-Programmers examined the code of the Good Progammers, the flaws within the code became apparent to them. Rather than being satisifed to point out these flaws, the Anti-Programmers sought to exploit these weaknesses for their own purposes. It has always been the goal of those who choose darkness to get monetary gain and to obtain power over others, and the Anti-Programmers were no different in this respect. In relatively short order, a new breed of program began to appear.
One of the first of these Dark Programs was the Trojan Horse. This program enticed and seduced its victim by offering the promise of gratifying functionality. It claimed to solve some of the User’s most difficult problems without any effort required on the User’s part. But woe unto the unsuspecting User who fell victim to its allure! For once such a program was executed it would then set about doing the will of its evil master…and this was never good!
Also came the virus…a program that was as devious and amoral as the Trojan Horse program. The virus was basically a Trojan Horse program that the evil Anti-Programmers had imbued with the ability to replicate itself so that it might spread to other unsuspecting systems. With this program the Anti-Programmers created a wave of panic across the face of the Internet.
With such perilous times upon the Internet, the Good Programmers themselves began to fall from grace. Enticed by the trappings of wealth and fame for being the first-to-market, many of the once Good Programmers began to denounce the traditions of their fathers. Soon, code was being slapped together and posted for all to see without so much as a thought given to maintainability, or security, or even good design practices.
The Registry, may its name forever be cursed, was one such example. Originally born out of the desire to do good unto the users of THE operating system, it fell victim to the allure of budget constraints, release dates, and generally poor design review habits. With that fall came one of the most painful and recurring nightmares for any computer user: a clogged or broken registry
And other perils exist in the computer landscape to snare the unwary user…
