Non-Administrator Logins: The Low Cost Computer Defense

Posted by ThePaladin on 9th July 2008

If you are a user of one of the popular Windows operating systems, and especially if your computer came “pre-installed” with the operating system, then you are most likely running under an “administrator” account. An “administrator” account is a user account that has complete access to all parts of the operating system.

Modern day operating systems typically require you to identify yourself with a user name and password when you wish to use them. If you happen to run Windows XP (or an older version of Windows) you may not have to enter a user name and password on startup as these operating systems can be set up to “auto-login” for you. This is certainly convenient, but it creates a rather significant security risk.

Another New Category Now Open!

Posted by ThePaladin on 8th July 2008

The Paladin is proud to announce a new posting category: Wisdom from the Paladin. This category will contain bits of wisdom, technical tips, editorials and commentary by a distinguished and highly respected individual from the technical community (can you tell the Paladin is referring to himself?).

This category will differ from the Translated Tech News category in that the origin of the posts comes completely from the Paladin, rather than some tidbit of news identified elsewhere (you can translate that to: The information comes directly from the Paladin’s Soap Box!).

So prepare yourselves to be enlightened, citizens of the realm!

Warmest Regards,
The Paladin

A GREAT Book on Personal Finance

Posted by ThePaladin on 8th July 2008

Greetings Citizens of the Realm!

The Paladin has so wanted to tell you about the book he just finished reading that he had to create a new category just to place it on the site.

The book is called: “The Richest Man in Babylon”, and it is a fantastic guide to personal finances. Even if you are doing just fine with your personal finances the book is an excellent read.

The author, George S. Clason, presents his ideas in a rather interesting way: By telling stories set in the time of ancient Babylon, one of the most financially well-off cities ever to exist. The stories are fun to read, the principles are sound, and at only 166 pages you can get through it rather quickly.

So if you have a few moments, get a copy and read through it. You will be the wiser for it.

The book is also listed in the Paladin’s Store (The Armory) under “The Paladin’s Library” for your convenience. Click here to be taken to the Paladin’s Library.
