No doubt you are thinking: What is alternative software?

No, it has nothing to do with alternative medicine or alternative music!

It is a phrase the Paladin uses to describe software other than the industry standard software for a specific application.

So what does THAT mean?

Think of it this way: When someone asks you about web browsers, do you automatically think of Internet Explorer? Most people do. For many people, Internet Explorer is the only web browser out there.

And there is a certain amount of sense to this, seeing as Internet Explorer is, by all accounts, the dominant browser in use today.

So consider this: If you were a blood sucking scum of the earth individual with enough programming skills to write a virus program to infect unsuspecting user’s computers through their web browser, which web browser would you choose to look for weaknesses in?

Would you choose a browser that is not used by very many people, or would you go for the “biggest bang for your buck” and target the browser more people are using?

Well of course you would choose the browser most in use by the home and corporate user.

But guess what? Internet Explorer is NOT the only good browser out there!

There are many other solid web browsers that you can install and use, and because they are not the overwhelming market dominating browser, any virus or other malicious software whose attack is based upon a specific weakness in Internet Explorer will not have any effect on your computer!

And this same argument holds for other programs as well, whether they be web browsers, email programs, office suites (think Microsoft Office), or even operating systems!

What we plan on showing you now are some alternatives to the most popular software that most people use. Most of all, do not be fooled! These are not “rinky-dink” programs written by 9-year olds! These are very mature programs that, in some cases, do as much or more as the industry leading software.
