Online Storage

With the improvements in the technology that drives the public internet there are now companies that specialize in “online storage.” That is, they provide to you a way to securely transfer data from your hard drive to the storage facilities of a data center that is accessible by the public internet. Such companies charge a small amount per gigabyte of storage that you use. In addition, they will make backup copies of your data to ensure that it is safe.

While these companies (or at least most of them) use technologies to protect your data (access controls, encryption, etc.) you do have to keep in mind that the chance that someone will be able to access your data is quite small…but it is not zero. Therefore, if you decide to use this avenue of storage for your backups you have to take into account the security of the data you are backing up.

The Paladin will post some reviews of such companies as he is able to review them. Expect to see the reviews in a future post.
